Happy New Year!

The last two months were a total blur. Day did catch some bug that gave her a very high fever for three days, TWICE, but that was about the most eventful happening of the holidays. Otherwise, we've just been busy bees!

Day is walking like a pro now--her first official steps were on her birthday, but she learned to walk at Mom and Dad's over the Thanksgiving break--and has even started to pick up speed. She has discovered Yo Gabba Gabba and would sit in front of the TV on the floor of our bedroom all day if we let her! She says "Abba" for Yo Gabba Gabba. It's so sweet. And she can recognize the characters out of context. (Troy has a few figures.) Speaking if toys, she loves Elmo! She says, "Emmaw," when she sees him. AND as of this morning, she recognizes dogs and says, "Doggie." Pretty right on, too! She does call me "Ama," so it's hard to tell if she means me or the little red muppet. Ha!

She is throwing the MOST EPIC FITS these days. Before she was just flailing backward. Now, she falls forward and kinda hops on her belly, sometimes rolling over for effect. This usually happens when I don't pick her up. *sigh*

Oh, she dances! She's been doing it for about a month or so. Totally adorable. I need to get it on video.

As far as sleep goes, she was doing pretty well. But the past week or so, she's been waking up screaming, which sends Troy into our room. Not sure what it's about, but I'm praying it's temporary. She's also getting picky about her food. That needs to stop, too!

One Year Has Flown!

Here are some more updates from the past couple months.

October 2
Day has been clapping her feet, even louder than she can clap her hands!

She started sharing her pacifier with me. She stopped for about a month, and then this weekend (Thanksgiving) picked it up again! Now it's silly.

She says "mom mom" when she wants me. But at the time of this post, she had stopped. She says, "A ma," which might be me. Unsure!

She makes a smacking sound with her lips when she wants a bite or a drink of something you have. It's so cute.

She pushes around the walker for a few steps. But as of Thanksgiving weekend, she's a walker! She learned at Nana and Grandpa's house, so they just loved that. She started talking more in October, and now she's a little chatter box. I love it.

October 7
Apparently, Adayla is saying "Elmo" at day care.

November 10
She had her 1-year checkup today. Day is 20 lbs and 26 in. My little roly poly! Love her so much!

And I don't want to jinx anything, but I think she and Troy are officially sharing their room! Logan was so nice to let us usurp his room for most of November to help sleep-train Day, and now, by golly, I think we've got it! Last night was the first full night in the crib. But like I said, I don't want to jinx it, so I won't share details.

Oh, and around her first birthday (pics below), she started saying, "Buh-ber!" It's so sweet.

Mommy is a Slacker

I have really done a poor job of keeping up with my children's lives. The good news is, Facebook has all of Day's monthly photos that I've taken at home, with her updates. Here's a link to that photo album.

So here are the notes I've dictated to myself over the past couple months.

Adayla is crawling as of today, August 6. (started Wednesday after eating some Doc Burnstien's)

Also today, she began learning how to interact with the Fisher Price ABCs app on Nana's phone, and touching the screen with intention!

August 28

Now that she's crawling, one of her favorite things to do is open the container of baby wipes and start pulling them out. Seems to think they are pretty neat. And she's also pretty proud of herself for getting them out of there, even though I told her no.

We are transitioning from breastmilk, so now she's drinking a combination of goat milk, coconut milk and breastmilk twice a day, and then breastmilk the other times. She's also eating solids 2 to 3 times a day.

One funny thing about her is she's such a sweaty girl that it doesn't matter if her hair has been washed the night before, she wakes up with greasy looking, crazy wavy hair.

She went to her first baseball game on Friday night, August 26. We had free tickets to go see the Modesto Nuts, and she had a really good time, flirting with the gentleman sitting behind me. She also fell asleep, which didn't surprise me.

I have posted a lot of things on Facebook, and I forget that I haven't posted them on her blog. But it was about a week ago now that I was sitting in Mark's recliner, holding her. She was looking off toward the kitchen window and started to smile and babble a little bit. Then she would put her head on my chest for a second and close her eyes, and then sit straight again and look towards the kitchen and smile and giggle. This went on for about two minutes, and I just know she was playing with someone I could not see. It was bizarre.

September 9

I'm basically done breast-feeding--we've had a rough go at it, and my body has held out as long as it could--but she is loving goat milk and coconut milk (w/ vitamins) so I'm not worried.

I love to see her learning! She just tried to put her little red shoes on her feet while playing on the kitchen floor. And while she doesn't try to mimic the sounds that we make, she makes plenty of her own sounds.

A surprising thing that happened was, while we were at the Farmers' house with our Growth Group, for the first time, Daddy asked her for kisses and she gave him some!

September 13

She clearly signed "milk" to me today, and that reminds me that she's been signing "milk" for about a month. She doesn't do it every time, but sometimes. And I know she understands when I sign to her and say the associated words. It's sweet to watch her react. Oh, and she claps and knows that it's called clapping.

The only bummer is that she isn't sleeping well. We transitioned her to the crib two months ago now, and she just doesn't like to stay in there by herself. She'll take a good nap for the first 3 or so hours of the night, and then the rest of the night is hit and miss. I haven't slept an entire night through in six months. Hoping that changes soon!

So much growth!

I can hardly believe it's the middle of June and I'm just writing for the second time since my sweet daughter's birth. Life is SO crazy with two little ones!

I am ridiculously in love with this little girl. She is funny, she is vocal, she is easy-going, she is squishy! She is seven months old now, and she eats some solid foods, she scoots backwards when she's on her belly, she loves to jump in the new activity center Daddy bought her, and I'm pretty sure she's teething.

OH! Something I need to mention before I forget about it: I know when she's ready to get up in the morning when she whispers the "th" sound. It's so cute. She makes other sounds, too--"Day day day," "beh," raspberries, etc., but it's the "thh" that lets me know she's ready for her day. Too adorable.

It's Obvious By Now, But...

IT WORKED!

I can hardly believe it and I laugh every time I talk about it: the Preggo Pizza worked! Exactly 24 hours after I finished my first slice of it, Adayla Rylynn Calliope Cardenas entered the world! Here's my story:

I had been feeling my regular contractions all throughout the evening, and half expected them to be more Braxton Hicks. But, when morning came, I got the sense that these were different. So I started timing contractions around 9:30am. I also texted my mom to let her know that I was pretty sure I'd be calling the hospital soon, so she said they'd leave shortly. I ended up calling L&D around 10:30am and they told me to come in (after I had been on hold for 10 minutes because two other mothers in labor had just walked up to the admitting desk). We arrived around 11am, and because they were SO busy, they didn't have a chance to check me right away. Mark stayed out with Troy until his parents arrived while I continued to breathe through gradually intensifying contractions (whilst thinking to myself, This isn't all that bad. Silly girl). When the midwife came in, I was already at a 5 and they decided to admit me. I was shocked, because last time when I was just at a 3 I thought I was dying and was begging for drugs. When I finally got to the L&D room, it was 12:40pm. Mark and Lety brought Troy in and we put football on. I couldn't really pay attention, though, because the pain was starting to get bad. I paced around the room, trying to ease some of the pain, but nothing was working. Troy was growing tired and a little cranky, and I could tell he didn't like the fact that I was in pain. I asked Mark and Lety to take him out, because his presence was adding to my stress. And thank goodness they did! I soon was in transition around 1pm. The nurse suggested I take a shower to help ease some pain, and since I remembered people mentioning showers helped them during this time, I got in. It didn't help. I finally realized this actually IS "that bad" and I asked for an epidural. The nurse told me they needed to draw some blood and wait for results to come back before the anesthesiologist would come in, so I was still long enough for her to get a sample. A few minutes later, while I was doing more pacing and moaning, I remember her saying something like, "Well, we can wait for the results to come back, or I can call the midwife and see if it just might be baby time." Apparently, she already knew it was going to be baby time, and had said as much to my husband. He told me she said, "I don't want to tell her there is no time for the epidural." He replied, "Well I'm not going to tell her!" Ha. She decided to call Maureen and I got into the bed. Maureen checked me and I was at an 8. Definitely no time for meds now! She broke my water, checked me again, and was a 9. Then she just told me to go ahead and push the next time I felt a contraction! So I pushed/screamed for about 60 seconds. And, tada! My daughter was born at 1:31pm, 8 lbs 9oz and 19 3/4 in long.

I'm pretty sure Mark and Lety had only been out of the room for about 30 minutes. They had gone to get lunch and then Mark texted with her photo before they were done. My parents didn't make it. I think they came in around 1:45pm. I was kinda glad my Momma didn't have to hear me scream. Because boy oh boy did I holler! Ouchie ouchie. Anyway, when Troy came in, he was very sweet. We had told him a little it about there being a baby in my tummy, but we had no idea what he'd think about there being a baby in my arms. When he saw her, he wanted to touch her. So bent down a little and he touched her head. It was so sweet.

So since that day we have been VERY busy! Here are some (out of order) pics and moments from the past 2+ months.
